The function of the Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners is to license and regulate osteopathic physicians, a practice traditionally based on a theory of healing which often uses manipulation of the body to assist in the healing process. Osteopathic physicians practice primary health care which includes all aspects of medicine and surgery, including the prescribing of drugs. The Board assures that eligible applicants are licensed and takes disciplinary action in cases of unprofessional or illegal practice. Osteopathic physician assistants are also regulated by the Board.
