Endowed Care Cemeteries
Endowed care cemeteries are privately owned cemeteries that register with the State to establish a fund to maintain the general upkeep of the cemetery grounds. This includes mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, cutting trees, and keeping in repair roads, buildings, fences, and other structures as prescribed in the New Mexico Endowed Care of Cemeteries Act §58-17-1 NMSA 1978.
The Financial Institutions Division does not license or regulate the operations of any cemeteries, including endowed care cemeteries, municipal cemeteries, fraternal cemeteries, religious cemeteries or family burial grounds.
