The majority of CID’s work takes place in the field throughout the state of New Mexico. The Division has four Trade Bureaus which oversee all field operations: General Construction, Electrical, Mechanical, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas. 

The General Construction, Electrical, and Mechanical Bureaus are responsible for:

  • Review of residential and commercial building plans before a permit is issued
  • Inspection of residential and commercial buildings to evaluate code compliance and safety
  • Oversight of field operations and code enforcement in political subdivisions in New Mexico
  • Examination and certification of all local government building inspectors
  • Enforcement of applicable state and national building and safety codes, the Construction Industries Licensing Act, and the CID Administrative Code

New Inspection Request Procedure

Inspections must be requested through the inspection support center via e-mail, mail, or phone. The support center will dispatch the request to the appropriate inspector. Iindividual inspectors will no longer accept inspection requests.

You may request an inspection by any of these methods:

  • Send an e-mail to CID.Inspection@state.nm.us
  • Call our support center at (505) 222-9813 in the Albuquerque area,
    or (877) CID-0979 from any other location in New Mexico.

When requesting an inspection, be prepared to supply the following information:

  • Permit number
  • Contactor name and contact information
  • Project address
  • Directions to the project
  • Type of inspection needed
  • When the project will be ready for inspection
