The Public Accountancy Board issues licenses to both certified public accountants (CPAs) and CPA firms to practice public accountancy in New Mexico.
Public accountancy refers to providing financial services such as auditing; preparing financial statements; management and financial advice; consulting; preparing taxes; and tax advice. CPAs work both in private and public sectors.
The Board sets professional and educational standards for CPAs for obtaining new licenses and for renewing licenses each year, and ensures CPA firms report peer reviews of their performance. The Board also investigates complaints from the public against CPAs and/or CPA firms and takes appropriate disciplinary action when professional and ethical standards are violated.

Notice of Proposed Rulemaking
The New Mexico Public Accountancy Board (“Board”) will convene a regular board meeting and a public rules hearing on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. The regular scheduled board meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. and the Public Rules Hearing will immediately follow the board meeting in the Sandia Conference Room of the Regulation and Licensing Department Building, 5500 San Antonio Drive, NE Albuquerque, New Mexico 87109. Notice of the meeting is given in accordance with the Board’s Open Meetings Policy. The hearing will be held for the purpose of affording members of the public the opportunity to offer comments on proposed amendments to existing board rules.
The Board’s Rules Committee will recommend that the Board adopt amendments to the following rules:

Notice of the hearing and board meeting has been published in the New Mexico Register and in the Albuquerque Journal. Interested parties may access the proposed amendments and the meeting agenda on the Board’s website atwww.rld.state.nm.us/accountancy.
