Dental Health Care: Overview
The Board of Dental Health Care and the Dental Hygienist Committee oversees the practice of dentistry, dental hygiene, dental assisting, expanded function dental auxiliary and community dental health coordinator in New Mexico. The Board sets professional and educational standards to obtain and maintain licenses for dentist, dental hygiene, dental assistants, expanded function dental auxiliary and community dental health coordinator practicing in New Mexico.
The Board also investigates complaints from the public about unprofessional or unethical conduct, and takes disciplinary action when required.
In the interest of the public health, safety and welfare and to protect the public from the improper, unprofessional, incompetent and unlawful practice of dentistry and dental hygiene, it is necessary to provide laws and rules controlling the granting and use of the privilege to practice dentistry and dental hygiene and to establish a board of dental health care and a dental hygienists committee to implement and enforce those laws and rules.
