Our primary responsibility and obligation is to provide guidance, support, and assistance to the Department's Divisions, Boards and Commissions in the execution of their statutory mandates. We accomplish this by working with industry, the public, the Governor, and the legislature, as well as through the annual strategic and budgetary planning process.

Our dedicated, talented staff enable us to successfully perform our function and meet our responsibilities and obligations. With over fifty years combined experience in the private sector in addition to over fifty years combined experience in state and federal government, our team is well equipped to balance the business growth and development needs of private industry with the regulatory and licensing needs of the citizenry of and visitors to New Mexico.

J. Dee Dennis, Jr., Superintendent As the original founder of DKD Electric Company, a New Mexico owned and operated company, Mr. Dennis has, since 1978, successfully developed the company into one of the largest regional electrical contractors in the Southwest. Mr. Dennis has operated DKD as President, Chairman, and/or Managing Member since its inception. In 1999, he merged his company with a publicly traded company, IES, Integrated Electrical Services, in order to increase the opportunities of his company and its employees. His extensive experience in leadership team building and problem solving has been a proven combination that has successfully identified talented individuals and partners that continue to reach the vision of success for everyone.

From 1999 through 2003, Mr. Dennis became Regional Operating Officer for IES. His responsibilities included the management and control of 27 companies. In this position he managed the revenues of 285 million dollars annually, along with the overall management of 2,700 employees. He was responsible for all operations, financial reports, and bottom-line accountability for the IES subsidiaries in his region. As the Regional Operating Officer (ROO), he was effectively in a COO position on a regional basis in a $1.75 billion dollar publicly traded company. He held a seat in the top management of this company and provided leadership and vision for his group. He was a key participant in the overall benefit of the entire company.

In 2005, a management group lead by Mr. Dennis purchased DKD from IES. Since the purchase, DKD has increased revenue by 90% and operating income by 120%. Mr. Dennis has since built a management team that is now structured to take the firm to the next level of performance and customer satisfaction through training, internal growth and accusation of quality management members.

In addition to founding DKD Electric, Mr. Dennis also started Cibola Sales, an equipment leasing company, in the 1990’s.  He also sold this company to IES. Recently, Mr. Dennis has been responsible for the start-up operations for four companies that are ongoing, profitable centers and also have strong management teams in place.

In 2009 Mr. Dennis invested in, and was selected as, the CEO of Visible Light Solar. His goal was to take his entrepreneurial skills and vision to the renewable energy segment of the solar market and build a significant business. In one year, Mr. Dennis achieved his vision and was able to lead the company, in its infancy, to the successful development of a technology advanced, highly profitable company.  Mr. Dennis was a key player in the successful transition of the start-up company.  The company incorporated manufacturing with an emphasis on global marketing. The products designed during his leadership are still the basis for LED lighting products being designed today. Mr. Dennis resigned as the acting CEO to focus on Business Development for several of his investments.

Mr. Dennis attended the University of New Mexico and completed his electrical apprenticeship training. He holds licenses as an Electrical Contractor in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming, and Oregon.

In addition to his entrepreneurial businesses, Mr. Dennis is involved in enhancing the quality of life in our community by participating as a volunteer on a variety of boards and charity organizations.
