Adoption of 2008 New Mexico Electrical Code

14.10.5 NMAC 2007 New Mexico Electrical Safety Code

The Construction Industries Commission, at its January 18, 2008 meeting approved the adoption of the 2008 New Mexico Electrical Code (NMEC) which adopts and amends the 2008 National Electrical Code (NEC) as the minimum electrical code for the State of New Mexico. The effective date for enforcement is July 1, 2008. Any project that is permitted after July 1, 2008, shall comply with the 2008 NMEC and 2008 NEC. To establish effective dates, the Division will use the date of the building permit, if used, or the date of the electrical permit, when a building permit has not been issued.

Copies of the 2008 NMEC are available on the CID website and will be available for sale at the CID offices at a future date. When available, the Division will send copies of the 2008 NMEC to each CID inspector and to municipal and county electrical departments. Click here for more information.
