Journeyman Electrician Certificates of Competence Renewal

In New Mexico, journeymen must complete at least sixteen (16) hours of continuing education every three-years. This requirement serves to ensure regular training on the National Electrical Code, a code that is updated every three years. Eight (8) hours of the required training is on code change instructions and eight (8) hours is on other industry-related instruction.  

Proof of completion of continuing education requirements shall be submitted to the Division upon application for renewal of journeyman electrician certificate of competence. An application for renewal that is not accompanied by proof of completion of the continuing education requirements will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.
